A Status Yellow high temperature warning has been issued for the entire country.
The alert is in place from 8am on Thursday morning for 48 hours.
Met Éireann is forecasting very warm and humid weather on Thursday and Friday.
Daytime temperatures will be in excess of 27° in many areas away from coasts, with night-time temperatures not falling below 15°.
It says potential impacts could include heat stress, uncomfortable sleeping conditions and a risk of water-related incidents.
Thursday will be very warm with highs of 24° to 28° and dry in most areas with sunny spells.
Showers will develop in the southeast and spread northwards over Leinster, some heavy with thunderstorms and spot flooding possible, especially in the east.
Sunshine and isolated heavy or thundery showers will follow this afternoon with light to moderate southeast breezes.

Tonight will be warm, close and mainly dry with clear spells and some patches of mist and fog.
A few isolated showers are also possible with lowest temperatures of 14° to 17°.
Friday will be another very warm or hot day with highs of 24° to 28°, possibly higher in a few places.
It will be mainly dry with sunny spells, though some mist or fog may affect some coastal areas.
Some isolated heavy or thundery showers may develop inland during Friday afternoon.

The weekend will see bright or sunny spells and well scattered showers across Saturday, with highest temperatures of 21° to 25°.
Sunday will be another warm day with sunny spells and showers, with highest temperatures of 19° to 24°.
Night-time temperatures across the weekend are set to stay around 13° to 18°.
