Met Éireann has issued a High Temperature Advisory for the next seven days.
The forecaster said day-time temperatures will be in the high-twenties – possibly hitting higher than 30C in some areas.
It said things will also remain “uncomfortably warm overnight”.
The advisory notes that the hot spell will peak on Sunday and into early next week.
Met Éireann meteorologist Paul Downes said this week looks set to be the hottest of the summer.
He said the heat will drop off next Wednesday with the possibility of a return to rainier weather.
In meantime sun lovers have a week of high temperatures to enjoy.
“Either in June or July we tend to get the higher temperatures,” he said.
“There is still scope for some warmer conditions towards the end of the month although the pattern does look like it will be cooling down a bit.
“I would say this probably will be the peak of it for the summer, barring something exceptional in late July, early August.
Meanwhile the public is being asked to check in on elderly or vulnerable neighbours as the heat continues.
Mr Downes said things will be quite clammy for the next few days.
“It is going to be quite uncomfortable I guess with temperatures getting up there into the upper 20s and possibly even into the low 30s.
“That could be quite uncomfortable at times and especially leading up to Sunday, there is going to be quite a bit of cloud about at times too as well so feeling a little muggier especially at tnight time.
“From Saturday night on we are going to see temperatures probably not falling below 14C or 15C and possibly in the high teens or even 20C.”
