An international hitman who was jailed in Ireland for his role in a Kinahan cartel murder plot is to be surrendered to authorities in Lithuania.
Former Estonian soldier Imre Arakas is wanted there for his alleged involvement in the murder of a Lithuanian popstar’s lover.
In April 2017, Imre Arakas travelled from Alicante to Dublin to kill a man called James ‘Mago’ Gately; it is believed Mr Gately was targeted by the Kinahan cartel because of his links with the Hutches.
Arakas was arrested in a safehouse in Dublin in 2018; he was jailed by the Special Criminal Court for six years.
That same year, the first of two European Arrest Warrants were issued by authorities in Lithuania, where he’s wanted for murder.
Arakas opposed his extradition but Mr Justice Paul Burns dismissed his objections and approved the order to surrender him to authorities in Lithuania.
