People travelling through Holyhead Port are being told by ferry companies to rebook through different routes.
It's hoped the ferryport will re-open by Thursday - but there are no guarantees the repairs will meet that deadline.
Owner of Travel Extra Eoghan Corry has said the best option is picking a different travel route before then.
“Holyhead is a major channel to get on and off the island for people with cars, people with families,” he said.
“It looks like we are going to miss that deadline [December 19th].
“The ferry companies are telling us to rebook online – there are alternatives through Rosslare to Pembroke.”
Re-routing shipping
The Junior Transport Minister is expected to meet the chief executives of Irish Ferries and Stena Line tomorrow to re-route shipping around Holyhead.
There's huge concern for companies facing backlogs on both sides of the Irish Sea following the ports closure for major repairs after Storm Darragh.
Minister James Lawless has said it poses a massive logistical challenge in the vital run-up to Christmas.
“I’m working with as many players as possible on the pitch to make sure that the jigsaw is put together and all the pieces can move around very quickly and reroute elsewhere” he said.
“So, I’m meeting the shipping lines – they're key to this, Irish Ferries and Stena Line – I'm meeting both the chief executives of those company on Monday.
“We have been in touch with them almost daily – but they need to, I suppose, come to the table with solutions as well.”
If you made an order pre Storm Darragh and have not received your parcel yet, An Post have advised to check directly with your retailer.
