Holyhead Port is set to partially re-open on January 16th.
The Welsh port has been closed since it was damaged by Storm Darragh in December, but Terminal 5 is set to re-open this Thursday.
President of the Irish Road Haulage Association Ger Hyland has said the port needs to re-open as a matter of urgency.
“It’s vitally important for trade here on our island, for getting goods on and off the island,” he said.
“Nobody really realised how vulnerable we are as an island nation until Holyhead ceased to exist in the middle of December.
“It’s the most efficient artery that connects Irish goods to and from Britain and beyond.”
There will be up to eight daily sailings on the Dublin-Holyhead route for now, with Terminal 3 to re-open at a later stage.
