The Junior Justice Minister is among those welcoming the drop in home burglaries.

Gardaí have said the number of winter burglaries throughout the country dropped by 75% between October and March, compared to a decade ago.

Minister Niall Collins says credit is due to the Gardaí.

"It's really down to the successful and dedicated work by An Garda Síochána through Operation Thor, where An Garda Síochána targeted gangs of people and individuals, that has been a real success," he said.

"But we don't want to sit back on that success, we want to be proactive into the future and ensure that we continue to make our communities a safer place to live."

2024 had the lowest level of recorded homes burglaries in month of December in five years.
