A female patient in an Austrian hospital was so frustrated with a man snoring in the next room, she attempted to smother him with a pillow.

The 81-year-old man was saved from the 83-year-old woman when a night nurse found her standing over his whimpering body, pressing the pillow over his face.

Austrian newspaper Krone reports the nurse heard a commotion shortly after midnight, and went to investigate. It was then that she discovered another patient had sneaked into the room, and was attempting to smother the sleeping man.

According to Krone, nurse had to use some force to prise the woman away from the man and remove her from his room.

The 83-year-old woman later told police that she “could not stand the man’s snoring any longer.”

It is believed that the woman suffers from dementia, and will not face criminal charges.

State prosecutors said that the woman could not be held responsible for her actions, and decided not to classify them as attempted murder.
