Ryanair has bought accommodation for its staff in Swords, after realising housing was a “major impediment” to its recruitment targets.
The 25 newly-built units are located in Fosterstown, one bus stop away from the airport, and the budget airline has described them as “high-quality”.
“In recent years the absence of affordable rental accommodation has been a major impediment to recruiting and training new Irish and European cabin crew members to Ryanair’s inflight team,” the airline said in a statement.
“This accommodation, which is located one bus stop from Dublin Airport, will be rented at affordable rates to Ryanair cabin crew during their first year of employment.”
In August last year, a report by Daft.ie found that rents in the capital had risen by 10% in the space of a single year.
Similarly, a report in November 2022, found rents in Dublin had increased by 14% in just 12 months.
Speaking in April 2023, Taoiseach Leo Varadkar blamed an “exodus of small landlords from the rental market” for the rise.
Figures released today confirmed 32,695 new homes were built in 2023 - the largest number in 15 years.
It means the State has exceeded the 29,000 target the Government set itself in Housing for All.
