The Taoiseach says he has full confidence in the Housing Minister despite record levels of homelessness.
Figures released yesterday show more than 10,300 people accessed emergency accommodation in Ireland last month.
Among that number are more than 3,800 children.
Despite the record highs, Leo Varadkar insists Eoghan Murphy is the right man for the job:
Speaking in Cork today, the Taoiseach said: "I have full confidence in Eoghan Murphy as Housing Minister.
"It's a very difficult job. Eoghan Murphy did not cause the housing crisis.
"That was caused by other people before this Government took up office, and we shouldn't forget the record of some of the opposition parties when it comes to housing."
The latest homeless figures have led to fresh claims from opposition parties and homelessness organisations that the Government's housing policy is failing.
Labour called the continued rise in homeless figures a 'national scandal', while Simon Communities warned that the situation cannot become normalised.
