HSE officials who failed the intellectually disabled woman known as Grace are criminals and should be prosecuted, according to TD John McGuinness.
'Grace' was placed in a foster home in the south-east and left there for 20 years despite allegations of sexual abuse.
Fianna Fáil TD for Carlow Kilkenny says HSE officials know more about the case than has come out so far.
Speaking in the Dáil, he said: "Politicians will be blamed for the wrongdoing, but there are individuals in the HSE that know what went on.
"They're criminals - they should be brought to court, they should be prosecuted, and we should not be afraid to chase them down."
The Farrelly Commission has been investigating the 'Grace' case, and two substantive interim reports were published last month.
The commission's timeframe has been extended several times since being established in 2017.
Speaking the Dáil this afternoon, Minister of State Anne Rabbitte said it remains an active commission of investigation.
She said the Government was 'disappointed' that more time is still required, but it would be "no use" to scrap the investigation before a final report is completed.
She said: "We need to ensure this final report is drafted and submitted to Government so as that we have a true understanding of what events occurred and where exactly there were failures in Grace's care.
"There needs to be accountability - we need to know what happened and who was responsible for any failures that may be uncovered by the commission."
