Cabinet ministers are set to approve a major restructure of the HSE this morning.
It would establish six regional healthcare centres instead of the current centralised system.
The change would be the most significant shake up of the HSE's structures since it was founded in 2005 - and represent a return to a similar system to the one it replaced.

Ireland will fight EU plans to end seasonal clock changes.
Justice Minister Charlie Flanagan will tell his Cabinet colleagues this morning that it could lead to two time zones on the island of Ireland when the UK leaves the EU.
The department has commissioned a survey that shows 82% of people would oppose having a different time zone to Northern Ireland.

The US House of Representatives has voted to condemn Donald Trump for making "racist comments".
The symbolic vote - supported by Democrats but only four Republicans - passed despite the US president's insistence that he hasn't "a racist bone" in his body.
It follows a series of tweets he made on Sunday, suggesting that four progressive congresswomen "go back" to where they came from.
All of them are American citizens, and all but one were born in the US.

The Oireachtas committee on sport will meet today to discuss the FAI.
It's after a call by the Sports Minister Shane Ross for FAI president Donal Conway to withdraw his nomination to be the next Association president.
Minister Ross claimed that is necessary 'to allow for new leadership, with credible reform credentials, in the best interests of football'.

A Dublin MEP says the election of Ursula von der Leyen as the next European Commission president is good news for Ireland.
Frances Fitzgerald said the German politician's support for the Brexit withdrawal agreement and understanding of the peace process must be welcomed.
Ms von der Leyen yesterday became the first women elected to the EU's top job, a position she'll take up on November 1st.
