The legendary Dubs player and manager passed away last Friday at the age of 83.

The family of Mr. Heffernan were joined by GAA stars past and present - as well as Dublin Lord Mayor Naoise O'Muirí, while the Taoiseach and President were represented by their Aides de Comp.

Known throughout the county as 'Heffo' he won Sam Maguire as a player with Dubs in 1958 and was selected on both the teams of the Century and the Millennium.

'A blue jersey at the Pearly Gates'

Speaking during the service, family friend Father John Fitzpatrick - whose uncle was a good friend of Kevin Heffernan - had this thought.

"I had no doubt that my uncle had a blue jersey ready for Kevin on his arrival at the so-called Pearly Gates last Friday" he said.

"And that there is a celestial of branch of Vincent's already established, ready to do battle again against a team of their old earthly rivals, assembled by Paidi" he added.

A guard of honour lined Griffith Avenue in Marino earlier this afternoon as friends and family said farewell to the former Dublin Manager.
