Thousands of people have marched to the Israeli Embassy in support of the people of Palestine.

Organsied by the Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign, protestors gathered at the Spire on O’Connell Street at 1pm today before marching to the Israeli Embassy in Ballsbridge.

The crowd carried banners with slogans showing solidarity with Palestinian civilians and Palestinian flags.

Sinn Féin leader Mary Lou McDonald and People Before Profit TDs Richard Boyd Barrett and Paul Murphy were among politicians in attendance at the rally.

Speaking outside the Israeli Embassy, Deputy Boyd Barrett described Israel as a “terror state”.

“Publicly, without apology, the Israeli Government, its leaders, its military, that they intend to commit genocide, a war crime, ethnic cleansing against two million people,” he said.

He said Israel’s action are not “self-defence” but a war crime.

“This cycle of violence has revealed the real nature of the Israeli regime,” he said.

“It is not defending itself; it is defined a brutal apartheid state.”

Deputy Boyd Barrett encouraged people to return next week for another rally calling on the Government to boycott, sanction and divest from Israeli institutions.

A second demonstration, organised in solidarity with Israel, will take place in Dublin city centre this evening.

Other Palestine solidarity rallies also took place today in Ennis, Cork, Carlow, Limerick and Galway.

Thousands of people also joined a march through central London in support of the Palestinian people.

The Palestinian Health Ministry reported nearly 2,000 people have died in Gaza, while Israel have reported 1,300 deaths in the state so far.

Yesterday, the Israel Defence Force (IDF) ordered an evacuation of northern Gaza, where 1.1 million of all 2.3 million people in Gaza live, within 24 hours.

It is expected that Israel is planning for a ground offensive in the area after carrying out local raids overnight.
