Around a thousand people took to the streets of Dublin last night to protest against Donald Trump's immigration policies.

The demonstration outside the US Embassy in Ballsbridge was held in response to the US President's temporary travel ban on people from seven predominantly Muslim countries.

President Trump's executive order also suspended his country's refugee programme, and indefinitely halted the entry of Syrian refugees into the US.

The order has led to major protests in the US itself and around the world.

Ahead of last night's protest, the embassy had warned US citizens to avoid areas where the demonstration - organised by the 'United Against Racism' group - was taking place.

Protesters, who gathered despite wet & windy conditions, heard calls for Enda Kenny to call off the traditional St Patrick's Day visit to the White House.

These people explained why they turned out for the demonstration, with one American in attendance suggesting she was "sensitive to the perception of Americans around the world, so it's important to me that I come out as an American".
