Hundreds of people have attended the funeral of Maeve Binchy in Dublin.

The requiem mass for the popular author and journalist took place in the Church of the Assupmtion in Dalkey which was full to capacity.

The 72-year-old died on Monday evening after a short illness.

The chief mourners were here husband Gordon Snell and her sister Joan and brother William.

They were joined by amongst others the President and Taoiseach’s aides-de-camp.

Newstalk’s Fergal O’Brien was there and spoke to Lunchtime.
