A weak stream of sunlight has marked the winter solstice at Newgrange in Co Meath.
Some 100 people were inside the chamber at daybreak.
Most of them had won a lottery to be there, while hundreds more gathered outside.

It was misty there this morning, but a thread of sunlight entered the chamber at around 9am marking the winter solstice.
