Nearly 500 people gathered at a town park in Fermoy, Co Cork, to remember murder victim Tina Satchwell.

Members of Tina Satchwell’s family were among those who attended a vigil in her hometown this evening.

Shirley Keegan read out a statement on behalf of the family that said they would “cherish the moments and all the great memories we spent with you”.

“You will be in our hearts forever,” she said.

“We love you Tina, you are at peace now.”

People lit candles close to a portrait of Tina, before a minute’s silence was held.

Ms Satchwell was reported missing by her husband Richard Satchwell in March 2017.

The investigation was upgraded to a murder inquiry on October 10th and her remains were discovered in a house in Youghal, Co Cork.

Ms Satchwell’s husband was arrested and charged with her murder. He is due to appear in court tomorrow, October 17th.

One of the vigil’s organisers Gráinne O’Connor said people in the community wanted to show their support to Ms Satchwell’s family.

“I can’t comprehend how they have coped over the last number of years,” she said.

“This opportunity for the town to come together to say, ‘We’re here for you, we have your backs for however long it takes to heal’.”
