Senator David Norris has announced that his former partner Ezra Nawi has passed away.
The 69-year-old died on January 9th in Israel from cancer.
Speaking on The Home Show with Sinead Ryan, Senator Norris said lockdown has been particularly difficult in recent months as he was unable to visit Mr Nawi when he was sick.
He said: "The sad thing is my ex-partner, who I loved very much, Ezra died [last] Saturday week.
"He had a brain tumour and I wasn't able to go and see him and I was very upset about that.
"But lots of people have exactly the same thing."
On the programme, Senator Norris gave a virtual tour of his Georgian home, detailing the pros and cons of living in a period property.
Last month, Senator Norris revealed that Mr Nawi was "very ill" with an incurable brain tumour and was being taken care of by his family in Israel.
Doctors gave him between a month and a year to live, he told Virgin Media One's The Six O'Clock Show.
The 76-year-old activist said the pair had known each other for 50 years, and he would not have hesitated to jump on a plane to see Mr Nawi if travel restrictions were lifted.
On their relationship, he added that the couple had some wonderful times together.
"Together and apart and you know, we had our ups and downs and so on but he was always absolutely wonderful," he said.
"I loved him very much. I still do and I pray for him every single night that he will have a gentle death."
