Could you give up your phone for four days?

Research by Deloitte reveals that 70% of adults in Ireland wish they did not use their phones as much as they do.

In an article with The Irish Independent, journalist Mary McCarthy told the story of a forced hiatus from her phone.

On Lunchtime Live, Ms McCarthy said that upon misplacing her phone and being stuck without it for a few days, she realised that she’s quite frequently distracted by her phone.

“I kind of realised that I'm just so distracted - I'm always, like, checking the phone for messages, I feel like I should reply straight away, I'm constantly on the news apps getting annoyed with Donald Trump,” she said.

“I just feel like, you know what, I want to kind of take my life back.

“I mean, it was kind of annoying having to email people and just stick to that but actually, at the same time, the plans were actually easier, in a way, because they were really concrete.

“Because when you're arranging to meet someone and they don't have a phone like you have to be on time and you have to stick to it.”
