Ian Bailey's solicitor says his client has no money to fight any compensation claim from Sophie Toscan du Plantier's family.

This come after the French authorities ordered a new European arrest warrant for the 62-year-old.

He was convicted yesterday, in his absence, of the murder of the French TV producer in west Cork in 1996.

The verdict was welcomed by Ms Toscan du Plantier's family.

A lawyer for the victim's family says they may seek up to €365,000 in damages from Ian Bailey.

Frank Buttimer says "best of luck with the money" to the family as his client hasn't been able to work for 23 years since he was connected to the case, and has no money to pay them.

Mr Bailey has repeatedly denied that he had any involvement in the murder or that he ever made any admissions in relation to her death.

His solicitor also says Bailey has been wrongly convicted of a crime he didn't commit.
