Ian Paisley Junior has lost his seat in North Antrim after 14 years as an MP.
His father, DUP founder and firebrand loyalist, Ian Paisley Snr first won the seat in 1970 and held it through the Troubles with huge majorities.
Now, the staunchly unionist seat has voted in TUV leader Jim Allister with a majority of 450 votes.
The seat voted overwhelmingly for Brexit in 2016 and Mr Allister based his campaign on opposition to the Windsor Framework which leaves Northern Ireland subject to certain aspects of EU law.
Elsewhere in Northern Ireland, the DUP lost South Antrim to the UUP and Lagan Valley to the Alliance.
The party held off a strong challenge from the Alliance in Belfast East and former DUP MLA Alex Easton won North Down as an independent.
Sinn Féin has held all seven of its seats and the SDLP has won in Foyle and Belfast South and Mid Down.
