Ice-cream sellers are facing a major Flake failure for the second summer in a row.
A shortage of Cadbury Flakes is threatening to undermine the traditional 99 once again this year – with the company blaming supply-chain issues for the shortfall.
On The Pat Kenny Show this morning, Yasmin Khan, one of the founders of Teddy’s Ice Cream in Dublin said supplies will definitely run short before long.
“It is exactly the same as last year,” she said.
“Mondelez, the company that owns Cadbury, short-ordered last year form the producers in Egypt and they put in the same order again this year.”
She said Ireland used to produce its own Flakes – but the company outsourced production to Egypt in recent years.
“Things will definitely run short, but I would hope we don’t run out,” she said.
“We should be good until the end of August because we kind of pre-empted this happening – but it’s going to be tight.”
She said Teddy’s has no plans to introduce Flake quotas or rationing in response to the shortage.
