A 17-year-old boy has been handed a life sentence for murdering a woman in Dublin’s IFSC district in 2021.
A review of the sentence will take place after 13 years.
The boy, who can’t be named because of his age, was due to be sentenced a few weeks ago, but the hearing was adjourned after the court identified shortcomings in the law.
Since then, the judge said he was encouraged by statements made in the Dáil in relation to changing the law around the sentencing of children for serious crimes.
The boy's life sentence will be reviewed on the 11th of January 2034 when he will be 28-years-old.
