Home furnishing company IKEA is to open a second outlet in Dublin in the form of an Order and Collection Point.

The firm says this is part of plans to test and explore new sales channels in the Irish market.

IKEA Dublin Carrickmines will be located in The Park, and is expected to open later this summer.

"This is a new format for IKEA and it has been designed to bring the IKEA home furnishing range and expertise closer to more customers", the company says.

The new outlet will act primarily as a planning studio - to plan and order more complex purchases such as kitchens, wardrobes and sofas.

However the outlet will not carry the full product range to take home, but customers will be able to order from the Ballymun IKEA store for home delivery or for collection at the collection point.

In addition, a small range of products will be available for customers to take home.

It will also offer free wi-fi and a small selection of take-home Swedish Food Market products.

IKEA Order and Collection development manager, Jack Jackson, said: "We want to make our products and services available to more people and we are really excited to be bringing this unique new format to the south side of Dublin".

The firm says recruitment for a team of 30 workers has now begun.

It will be located just off Junction 15 of the M50.
