On Monday, a homeless man was found dead on a street just metres from the Dáil in Dublin. His name was Jonathan Corrie and he was just 43 years of age.
Last night, dozens of people have taken part in a vigil outside Leinster House. Bouquets of flowers and candles have also been left at the doorway where his body was discovered.
Today, an interview which Jonathan took part in with Hannah Parkes, journalist, from 103.2 Dublin City FM, just a couple of months before he died has been released and it revealed that he had been homeless for most of his life after he reached the age of 18.
He said that although he was used to it, he missed watching programmes on television.
He also told Hannah that it could be any number of issues that would cause someone to end up on the streets.
Speaking about whether things would improve for him, Jonathan commented: "To get a job you need a base and you need a good three square meals a day as well, to be honest, and you need some good sleep and you won’t get it on the street so you can’t just grab a job on the street when you’re in a sleeping bag."
The interview, which was played on Lunchtime with Jonathan Healy today, is here in full:
