The anniversary of the 1916 Easter Rising has been commemorated with a military parade on Dublin's O'Connell Street.

The Tricolour on top of the GPO was lowered, while the 1916 Proclamation was read by Captain Austin Doyle from the Defence Forces earlier.

President Michael D Higgins led the events, and laid a wreath to commemorate those who died.

An Taoiseach Leo Varadkar and Tánaiste Micheál Martin were also among those in attendance.

Defence Forces personnel - including a brass and pipe band - and representatives of the Army, the Air Corps and the Naval Service all took part.

The event concluded with an Air Corps fly past.

A number of public transport diversions were in place for the duration of the commemoration.
