The Road Safety Authority has warned motorists to avoid unnecessary trips and to exercise extreme caution if they have to drive.
Snow, ice and rain are expected to clear as the day goes on, but with the weather set to change on Friday, we may see a storm this weekend.
Met Éireann said a storm has not been named at this time, but they are "closely monitoring" the situation.
