The centrepiece of the 1916 Rising celebrations took place on Sunday as thousands turned out to see the largest military parade in the history of the State.
The four kilometre route of the parade, from St Stephens green over the River Liffey past O'Connell Street, was lined with people who wanted to witness the events.
The day started with a memorial service in the Stone Breakers Yard in Kilmainham Gaol, where figures from the Rising were executed. President Michael D. Higgins laid a wreath in memory of those who lost their lives.

The procession then began to move through the city as members of the Defence Forces started from St Stephen's Green, before moving past St Patrick's Cathedral and College Green to the GPO, which was the rebel base of operations during the Rising.
At midday, the President and Taoiseach led a ceremony outside the GPO, where the proclamation was read and a minute's silence was observed.

There are further events planned for Easter Monday, which will see wreath laying ceremonies take place in the key 1916 garrisons including Boland's Mills, The Four Courts and Moore Street as well as in Athenry, Cork, Enniscorthy and Ashbourne.
