Yesterday saw the rare occurrence of a hybrid solar eclipse. It's known as a 'hybrid' because it started as an annular eclipse before the Moon’s orbit moved close enough to Earth to become a total eclipse.
Only some parts of the world, those crossing the Atlantic Ocean and equatorial Africa, saw a total eclipse, while those viewing the eclipse in other parts of the world saw only a partial blocking of the sun.
