There has been an 18% increase in the number of first-time callers to the Dublin Rape Crisis Centre.
The annual report for 2011 has been published by the Centre today.
It showed that almost 4,000 of the 11,800 calls handled by the 24-hour helpline of the Centre last year were first-time callers.
52% of the calls related to adult sexual violence including rape, sexual assault, harassment and trafficking.
While 48% of calls received concerned child sexual abuse.
CEO of the Dublin Rape Crisis Centre is Ellen O’Malley-Dunlop.
She is urging the government to avoid any further funding cuts.
