The INMO Executive Council has urged its members to accept Labour Court proposals aimed at ending the nurse’s dispute.
Three consecutive strike days, due to be held this week, were suspended after the Labour Court intervened on Monday.
The INMO (Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation) will now hold a series of briefings across the country, to inform members on what is contained in the proposals.
The briefings will be held over the coming weeks with a ballot to take place between the 11th and 25th March.
Over 40,000 nurses from the INMO and the Psychiatric Nurses Association (PNA) suspended their strike action after the recommendations were issued on Monday.
The INMO said the proposals make progress 'across all areas of concern' - including to address staffing, recruitment and retention problems.
INMO General Secretary Phil Ní Sheaghdha said: “There is still more negotiation to be done, but we are at a point where we believe strikes can be suspended.”
"Safe staffing along with recruitment and retention were key concerns for us, and we have made progress on both," she said.
Update from Phil: what's been shared isn't the full proposals.

In a Twitter post last night, Ms Ní Sheaghdha said there was “an awful lot of detail” in the proposals that had not been published.
“Nobody out there currently could possibly know what this deal means except the parties to the agreement who are the INMO and the Government,” she said.
“So, the most important thing is that members disregard what they are hearing because all it is is opinion and speculation.
“What we need is the opportunity to explain exactly what it means to you depending on where you are on the scale - and for every person that will have a different effect.
She said the deal “does not end with the Labour Court recommendation” and insisted that there are many aspects to it that "proof nursing and midwifery for the future.”
Get the facts, not the rumours. Here's an INMO summary of the proposals following the strike.

The PNA also suspended strike action on Monday, ahead of a full Labour Court hearing on Friday.
The @PNA attended a Labour Court hearing this evening. We will have daily engagement with the employer until Friday when the LC will be reconvened. We have agreed to suspend our strike action this week, i.e. Tuesday 12th, Wednesday 13th and Thursday 14th in the interim.
