The 24/7 Alliance is stepping up its campaign of resistance against public sector pay cuts today.

The group represents frontline emergency workers and is planning to outline how proposed cuts will affect their members.

The Association of Garda Sergeants and Inspectors (AGSI) and the Garda Representative Association (GRA) have already left talks on a new Croke Park deal.

The unions representing Gardai, nurses and prison officers are warning they will take whatever action is necessary to protect their members pay.

 'Totally unacceptable'

The unions - which represent 70,000 frontline workers - say the plan to reduce pay by over 10% is totally unacceptable and unrealistic.

Liam Doran is the General Secretary of the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation (INMO).

He is not ruling out the possibility of industrial action and says his members will resist any cuts.
