Below is the sequence of events on October 12th, 2023, as told by Martin Conmey, Dick Donnelly and Marty Kerrigan:

  • Martin Conmey spent the day working on Coyle's farm near Dunshaughlin - pulling Brussels Sprouts in one of the fields.
  • Just as he was finishing work, Dick Donnelly arrived at the farm to give him a lift.
  • Because the sprout field was away from the farmhouse, they did not go home through Ratoath as they normally would. Instead, they took a different route, stopping off at their friend Marty Kerrigan’s house.
  • When they arrived Marty’s sister Katy (Kathleen) asked for a lift to nearby Barron’s Shop where she picked up a bail of briquettes.

Home for dinner

  • After dropping Katy off again, at around 7pm, the three boys drove onwards down the lane, dropped Martin home and agreed to pick him up again later that evening.
  • Dick drove on toward his own house with Marty Kerrigan in the passenger seat.
  • On their way down Porterstown Lane, they were forced to break suddenly when they came across a parked Ford Zodiac, just across from the ESB Pylon in the area.
  • From his back garden, Martin Conmey saw Dick’s break lights come on from across the field.
  • We also know that Martin’s younger brother Sean saw a car parked here the night Una went missing – noting that he also saw a “shadowy figure moving from the front of to the back of the car with a flashlight”. If the timings are correct, this would have been minutes after Dick and Marty drove by.
  • Dick drove back home to have his dinner, leaving Marty outside in the car listening to music.

Night out

  • Back on Porterstown Lane Martin Conmey was eating his dinner and getting ready to go out.
  • Less than an hour after dropping him home, Dick and Marty picked him up again and they drove to Ryan’s Pub in Rataoth where Martin met a girl from Dunshauglin that he was dating at the time.
  • They had a few drinks in Ryan’s and on their way back they saw a group of people near the pylon looking for Una, who they were told had not come home.
  • They drove on down the lane to Marty’s house where he picked up some money.
  • From there, they drove down to the bottom of the lane to collect another friend, Irene Ennis, before heading to a nearby pub for a few drinks.

Heading home

  • After leaving the pub, Dick dropped Marty and the girls home.
  • He then dropped Martin back home, where they found that everyone was still out looking for Una.
  • Martin pulled his wellies on and joined the search.
