An interim examiner has been appointed to an aircraft maintenance company that employs over 200 staff at Shannon airport.

The High Court has heard the Russian owned Transaero Engineering Ireland is feeling the effects of geo-political tensions.

Shannon based Transaero Engineering Ireland has been under Russian ownership since 2012.

As a result the aircraft maintenance company claims it's suffering the knock-on effects of EU/US trade sanctions, falling oil prices and the Rouble currency crisis.

Judge Bernard Barton has appointed Michael McAteer as interim examiner to try and save the insolvent business which employs over 230 people – many of whom are highly specialised technical staff.

The survival plan will see some form of restructuring but in the meantime the company is sending out the message that it's business as usual.
