The executive of the Irish National Teachers' Organisation (INTO) has agreed to accept an invitation to talks on the Croke Park 2 agreement from the Labour Relations Commission (LRC). The decision was made at a meeting of the union executive today.
The original LRC proposals were rejected by 70% of the 32,000 union members last month.
INTO General-Secretary Sheila Nunan said the union will stress the impact of pay cuts and tax increases on teachers and their families. She said it would also stress how teachers had fully complied with the terms of the original Croke Park agreement.
Ms. Nunan added that since the original LRC proposals were formulated, changes to the promissory note deal and potential changes to the Troika repayment schedule provided the context for a further examination of the financial adjustment required.
Later today the INTO will announce the result of a ballot for industrial action up to and including strike action should the government try to enforce cuts under Croke Park 2 without agreement.
