Gardaí have launched a criminal and disciplinary investigation after a sum of money, believed to be in the region of €4,000, went missing from Balbriggan Garda Station. 

It is the second time that money being held at the station, as part of evidence to a crime, has been stolen. 

Last month, in a separate incident, €9,000 was stolen from Balbriggan Garda Station. 

But a Garda spokesperson says the amount stolen in this incident is smaller.
