A senior Garda has been appointed to investigate the disappearance of €9,000 in cash from Balbriggan Garda Station. It is understood a Detective Superintendent from another Dublin Garda station has begun interviewing officers in connection with the incident.
When Gardai intercepted an armed robbery in Lusk last January they seized €26,000 from would-be robbers.
The money was kept at Balbriggan Garda station. However when the owner of the premises arrived to collect the cash €9,000 was missing from it.
It is understood the notes are untraceable and unmarked.
The senior Garda will analyse the timeline of the disappearance of the money and has begun interviewing officers at the station.
