Gardaí in Sligo are investigating a fire which caused extensive damage to a number of sheds housing water meters.

The premises is currently occupied by GMC Sierra - the company responsible for installing the water meters.

A forensic examination has been carried out at the scene of the blaze at Union Place.

The results of that will determine how the investigation will proceed.

The fire broke out at around 6am this morning. Gardaí are investigating whether it was started maliciously.

Members of the fire service, as well as GMC Sierra workers, were at the scene this afternoon.
