London Police investigating the murder of an Irish man have made an arrest. Michael Hunt (37), who was originally from Kilmore Quay in Co. Wexford, was found with serious injuries in the South Norwood area of the city at the weekend.

He was found in a skip at the far end of an alleyway off Station Road at around 7am on Saturday morning. He was taken by ambulance to Kings College Hospital, where he died shortly before midday.

A post mortem was started on Sunday at Princess Royal University Hospital and has yet to be concluded.

An investigation is being led by officers from the Homicide and Major Crime Command.

Detective Chief Inspector Diane Tudway said "Michael Hunt was well known in the local community and I would urge anyone with information, or who may have seen Mr. Hunt in the time prior to him being found, to come forward and speak to police".

"The information available to us at this stage leads us to believe that Mr. Hunt was not the victim of a stranger or random attack. However, our enquiries continue" she added.

The arrested man (21) was detained this morning and remains in custody. Anyone with information is asked to contact the incident room there on (00-44) 8721-4005.

Pat O'Connell from the Irish Daily Star told South East Radio the police are expected to launch a murder investigation.
