A man has died while in garda custody in County Waterford.

The 21 year old man was arrested shortly before 11 o'clock this morning and was taken to Dungarvan Garda Station - his body was discovered just before midday.

The matter was referred to the Garda Ombudsman by the Garda Commissioner in accordance with standard practice and an investigation was launched.

A post mortem examination will be conducted on the man's remains at Waterford Regional Hospital tomorrow.
