Investigations are to be carried out after a man died while in custody at Dublin’s Criminal Courts of Justice yesterday.
A Garda spokesperson said the Garda Síochaána Ombudsman Commission (GSOC) was investigating because the man had been transferred from Garda custody.
The man was under the supervision of the Irish Prison Service (IPS) at the time and a spokesperson for the service said an independent investigation will now be carried out.
The cause of death will now be determined by the Coroner Office.
“The Irish Prison Service can confirm a death occurred in the Criminal Courts of Justice on 08/12/2021,” said the spokesperson.
“The matter will be subject to an independent investigation. The cause of death will be determined by the Coroner office.”
