Gardaí are investigating an aggravated burglary at a house in Blackrock, Co Louth.

It happened at a house on Rock Road at around 8.00pm on Tuesday night.

Two men armed with a knife, hammer and hatchet entered the home of an elderly couple - a man and woman both aged in their 80s.

They proceeded to lock both persons into an upstairs bedroom before ransacking the house and took cash and a car.

The elderly couple were taken to hospital suffering from shock.

No arrests have been made and investigations are continuing.
