Gardai in Dublin are investigating the death of a baby this morning.

Emergency services were called to a house on Sherrard Avenue in the north inner-city at around 7.30am this morning.

However it is understood the 6-month-old baby girl was already dead.

The infant was brought to Temple Street Children's Hospital where a post mortem will be carried out.

Gardai say that this will determine the course of their investigation.
