Gardai are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a former member of the force in Dublin.

The man was aged in his 50s and from Clonsilla and died at Connolly Hospital in Blanchardstown yesterday.

57-year-old Seamus Marren retired from the force back in 2011.

Gardai are examining if he died as the result of an alleged assault.

A post mortem examination is currently taking place to determine his exact cause of death.
