An investigation has been launched into claims that the Rose of Tralee was subjected to racist abuse at a chipper.
Kirsten Mate Maher - the first ever African-Irish winner of the annual contest - says she was verbally attacked during a night out in Kilkenny on Sunday.
It's understood the abuse took place when she called into a fast-food outlet with her boyfriend.
The newly-crowned Rose told KCLR radio that she's leaving the matter to gardaí.
In a statement, a Garda spokesperson confirmed they are aware of an incident that took place on John Street in Kilkenny at 3am.
They added that their investigations are ongoing.
In the past, Kirsten - who was the Waterford Rose in last week's competition - has admitted that she is regularly asked if she's actually Irish.
