Police in Northern Ireland are investigating what they believe was the attempted murder of an off-duty police officer in Co Fermanagh.
At around 2am this morning, a male police officer at home in Kesh noticed movement outside his home.
When he opened the door, he was confronted by a masked man aiming a shotgun at him.
The suspect is said to be have been dressed entirely in black, and fled on foot across nearby fields close to a local football club.
PSNI Detective Chief Inspector Julie Mullan said: "We firmly believe that this disturbing incident was a failed attempt to kill a local police officer.
"There are no words to describe those who would creep through the dark of night with nothing but death and destruction on their minds."
She added: "At the present time we are keeping an open mind as to the motivation behind this attack however a primary line of enquiry is that organised criminal elements may be responsible."
Police have pledged a "thorough and robust" investigation into the incident.
Anyone with information is being asked to contact local police or Crimestoppers.
