An investigation is continuing this morning in to what caused a suspected gas explosion at a house in Dublin city centre yesterday evening.

A man remains in a critical condition at the Mater hospital after suffering severe burns.

The explosion ripped through the front and back walls and caused the roof of the terraced house to collapse and the building to go on fire.

Nine units of the fire brigade attended the scene and managed to pull a 58 year old man from the rubble and he's in the Mater hospital having suffered serious burns.

A gas leak is suspected to have been the cause of the explosion.

Investigations are continuing into the blast - which has now left other houses on either side unstable.
