A second investigation is underway at Cavan General Hospital following the death of another baby.

In a statement this afternoon, the Health Service Executive (HSE) says a baby born at the hospital yesterday died this morning.

A full review of the circumstances surrounding the death will be carried out.

Management at the hospital has offered its sympathies to the family on their tragic loss - and say they hope they will be given the privacy to deal with their grief.

While the HSE says it will be making no further comment.

A separate investigation is already underway following the death of a newborn baby at the hospital late last month.
