Gardai and the Health and Safety Authority have begun separate investigations following the death of a 40-year-old father of two in a farm accident in Co Cork on New Year's Eve.
The man was fatally injured when he was crushed by a JCB while feeding cattle at the family farm at Ballyhillogue in Mourneabbey near Mallow at around 7.30pm yesterday evening.
The man was discovered by a relative, and the emergency services were alerted, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
His body was removed to Cork University Hospital for a postmortem.
Gardai preserved the scene and have removed the JCB for a technical examination, with a view to preparing a file on the man's death for an inquest at the coroner's court.
