Bauer Media Audio has agreed to acquire iRadio subject to regulatory apparoval, the company has announced.
iRadio is the leading youth music station in the Midlands, North East and North West and the acquisition means Bauer Media will boost its total weekly radio reach to almost 1.9 million listeners.
Bauer Media already owns a number of Irish stations - including Newstalk, Today FM and SPIN.
The stations have all achieved new highs for listenership since their acquisition in 2021 and the company looks forward to helping iRadio do the same.
“iRadio is a high-quality business and we’re looking very forward to welcoming it to Bauer,” interim CEO Chris Doyle said.
“Together, we’ll be able to ensure that the station can provide even more of the great content, music and entertainment that its audiences love.”
iRadio Chairman Willie O’Reilly said the acquisition is an exciting development for the station.
“iRadio has grown to become the most popular radio station in its broadcast region keeping listeners across its fifteen counties informed and entertained,” he said.
“The board would like to thank everyone who has been a part of this journey for their contribution.
“iRadio is now ready to embark on a new chapter as part of Bauer Media Audio. Its best days lie ahead.”
Bauer Media Audio owns radio stations in nine European countries and reaches 61 million listeners every week.
